COURSE OVERVIEW:
WORKING AS A DOOR SUPERVISOR WITHIN THE PRIVATE SECURITY INDUSTRY
PURPOSE
This course is designed for individuals who wish to work as a door supervisor in the private security industry. The course provides learners with the knowledge and skills required to obtain a Level 2 Award for Working as a Door Supervisor within the Private Security Industry.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
To enroll in this course, learners must be at least 18 years old and able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing. Alternatively, learners can demonstrate their proficiency in English by obtaining a B1 level qualification, an ESOL qualification at Level 1, or a Functional Skills Level 1 in English.
UNITS The course consists of four units that learners must complete to obtain the qualification. These units are:
- Working within the Private Security Industry (K/616/0273)
- Working as a Door Supervisor within the Private Security Industry (J/616/0944)
- Conflict Management within the Private Security Industry (Y/506/7125)
- Physical Intervention Skills within the Private Security Industry (Y/616/0978)
ASSESSMENT Assessment of learners’ knowledge and skills is carried out through multiple choice examinations and practical demonstrations.
QUALIFICATION SPECIFICATION
The Level 2 Award for Working as a Door Supervisor within the Private Security Industry is a pre-requisite for individuals seeking to work as door supervisors in the private security industry. This qualification meets the criteria for a licence-linked qualification specified by the Security Industry Authority (SIA) under the Private Security Industry Act (2001).
Individuals who work in specific sectors of the private security industry must be licensed by the SIA, and a Door Supervisor licence is required for manned guarding activities undertaken in relation to licensed premises. The Level 2 Award for Working as a Door Supervisor within the Private Security Industry provides full coverage of the competencies specified by the SIA and meets the requirements for a licence-linked qualification.
The course is suitable for individuals who are new to the sector without any previous award or qualification conferring full or partial exemption.

UNIT DETAILS
The course requires a minimum of 32.5 hours of contact time and a maximum of 45 hours of total learning time. The breakdown of unit-specific hours is as follows:
- Working within the Private Security Industry: 1 hour minimum contact time, 9 hours maximum contact time, and 10 hours total learning time
- Working as a Door Supervisor within the Private Security Industry: 12 hours minimum contact time, no maximum distance learning time, and 12 hours total learning time
- Conflict Management within the Private Security Industry: 7.
